Celebrating Queens Birthday Weekend we hopped across the ditch & explored Sydney By Bike. What an awesome city to discover by cycle.
We hired a couple of City Sports Bikes from Town Bike Pitstop located in Redfern this Cafe & Bike Shop have a range of urban cycles for rent and we enjoyed a cup of coffee while we waited to get on the road.
We took in the inner city, pedalling through the leafy backstreets of Alexandria, Surry Hills, Newtown, Paddiington & up through Woollarah . Its easy riding though the sign posted designated cycle routes and we had no problems finding bike parking at the various shopping/coffee stops along the way.
Sydney is a busy city no matter what day of the week, cycling avoids all the hassle of trying to find a park and taking great delight in passing many stationary vehicles.
The next day we cruised through the CBD, not so bike friendly on the roads but we found some great separated cycle ways behind Darling Harbour and then we were over the ANZAC bridge to Balmain. From there an easy trip on the ferry to Milsons Point, yes all ferries & trains are bike friendly.
Then it was time for our second harbour crossing of the day and Sydney Harbour Bridge with a dedicated cycle lane on the right hand side . Coming from Auckland being able to ride across the harbour is an absolute joy!
We ended up through the new development and Barangaroo -shared cycle & pedestrian paths before finishing up under the Harbour Bridge
Sydney – your an fun city to ride in – can’t wait to do it again!
